"Giddy Up Go"

Horse training by
Catherine Meikle

Catherine and her (very special boy) Casper, better known as, The Jazz Man.

Hello and welcome,

Let me tell you a little about myself.
I grew up around horses on Vancouver Island. My first horse was a Shetland pony who taught me all about "patience and perseverance". I went through Pony Club, competed in Dressage , Jumping and 3 day Eventing.
In my teen years taught Pony Club, ran my own little boarding stable on the family farm and rehabilitated race horses
off the track.

After graduation I went to Olds College in Alberta and studied Equine Sciences. After completing my degree I returned to B.C. I started my own successful Breeding, Training and Teaching stable.
In the mid 90's I took a change of pace and moved to the Interior of British Columbia. On a working Cattle and Guest Ranch, training horses for Ranch Work, Cattle and riding in the true wilderness of the Nemaiah Valley.
For the previous 3 years, I had been starting young Reining and Cutting horse prospects on a Quarter Horse Ranch at
Canim Lake, B.C. and for the past year I have been enjoying training horses at my home.

I now reside just outside of 100 Mile House, on a small rural farm with my family and four legged counterparts. With the start of a new year and a new outlook, I have decided I want to be closer to home and family. So, I am offering my training services out of my home base. On a smaller scale, with a more personal note.

My methods and techniques are this......

Young horses are like small children. You must have a great deal of patience and a soft touch. I train according to attention span, ability and age. Using a progressive series of building blocks, for the horses mind. A good foundation in training is vital to any horse under any discipline.

My Goals and Objectives are this......

Safety is first and foremost for both horse and rider. The goal is to produce relaxed, patient, well mannered horses and to help the rider understand the mind of their horse. So that they can move forward together with confidence, through gentle handling with advanced communication, trust, love and reward.
